Saving (& cutting) scenes out of the generated .AVI file

As mentioned before when doing the ProjectX demuxing, you can select, cut and copy scenes from your converted file rather easily and quickly afterwards. I'll try to describe briefly below on how to do this.

Step 1: Launch NanDub

  • Open up Nandub , which got installed as a 3rd party tool when you installed GordianKnot. Nandub is a very powerful video editor (can convert as well), which you might like to use for other processes later on when you start to know this tool.

Step 2: Open the converted AVI

  • Click on [file] - [open video file]
  • Select the .avi file that was created with Gordian Knot.
  • Ensure that the option "Audio" is set to select the AVI audio and as "direct stream copy" (fig 17). This will use the existing audio stream and not do any further processing with this audio.
  • For "Video", ensure also that "direct stream" is selected (fig 17-right); the video is already compressed, isn't it?

Step 3: Select the scene

  • Use the pointer on the slider (fig 16), and the buttons under the pointer to select the start of the video you want to keep
  • Click on the 6th button from the right (little key with arrow pointing left). This will move the pointer to the first full frame

  • Click on the second button from the right, this will mark the current position as a starting point

  • Move the slider to the end of the video fragment

  • click on the 5th button from the right to go again to the last full frame

  • finally, click the most right button to mark the end frame of the video you want to keep

Step 4: Finalize

Now when you have your selection you will see it marked BLUE in the slider

  • Select [file]-[save as] to save your clip as an AVI file

note: after selecting your fragment of the video, you can also choose to Delete the selection pressing the [del] button.

  • alternatively, either delete (Del) or use file-"save as" to save your clip.
